Attaching Files to Newsgroup Articles

While posting an article to a newsgroup is much like tacking an index card to a bulletin board, you can go an extra step and attach a computer file to your article. An attachment can be any kind of file. Often-used types include .JPG photo files, .WAV sound files and word processor documents. Other people using the newsgroup can view or copy the attached file. Large attachments may take some time to send and receive.

I only have instructions handy for doing this in Netscape:

To post a newsgroup article with an attachment in Netscape News

  1. Create a newsgroup article as described in Posting a Newsgroup article.
  2. Click the Attach button in the article Composition window. The Attachments window appears.
  3. Click the Attach File Button. The Enter File to Attach dialog box appears. Use this dialog box to search through folders for the file you want to attach.
  4. Click the filename.
  5. Click Open. The dialog box closes and the filename appears in the Attachments window.
  6. Click the As Is option button if it isn't already selected.
  7. Click OK. The Attachments window closes.
  8. Click the Send button.

You also can include a link to an Internet address in an article. The recipient sees colored words which, when clicked, cause the browser to display a particular Internet site. See Including a Link in Advanced Newsgroup Information.
