How to Buy thirtysomething Stuff

In late 1990 and early 1991, when thirtysomething was in its fourth year, the show's makers must have been considering a fifth season that never happened, because that's when it suddenly was possible to buy thirtysomething stuff! Much of that stuff is history, but you can still buy some items in stores or online. This page tries to help.

You definitely can buy the thirtysomething soundtrack album and/or sheet music. — This is music from the show, written and performed by W.G. Snuffy Walden, Stewart Levin and Jay Gruska. Walden deservedly gets much credit and praise, but a lot of great stuff on this album was written by Levin. You might find the CD or sheet music in stores, but you'll have better luck online. The online stores often have links to let you listen to samples.
Buy the CD online at www.amazon.com or cdnow.com.
Buy the sheet music online at www.sheetmusicplus.com or barnesandnoble.com.

You might be able to buy the 1991 book "thirtysomething stories," by the writers of thirtysomething — It's a collection of scripts for some of the better episodes, with introductions by the writers. If you're a major fan of the show I recommend it. It's also a great read for aspiring writers; the writers' introductions are wonderful and the scripts include dialogue that was cut or altered in the broadcast versions. It's out of print now, but you might find it at a used book store. Online, at sites like Half.com or ebay.com you likely can find someone selling a used copy. Other online book sellers also will track down out-of-print books for you. Try www.amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com.

You definitely can't buy the thirtysomething catalog or anything offered in it — In 1991 a catalog briefly became available, and consumers could order thirtysomething-inspired clothing and jewelry. The front cover is shown here. I don't know who had access to this catalog; certainly not me. However someone kindly scanned the entire catalog and emailed it to me. It's mostly fashion that is in the general style of the show but not taken directly from it. That said, there are a few treats, such as Gary's letter jacket, Melissa's big coat with the numbers all over it, plaid shirts like Michael wore and loud ties that only Eliott would wear.
You CAN buy DVDs of the show. Check out my page about it.
You can hear "thirtysomething revisited" on "Music by WG Snuffy Walden" — In 2001, 10 years after the show ended, Walden issued a CD of new tunes by him plus themes he's written for several TV shows. It includes a wonderful, slow acoustic guitar version of the thirtysomething theme. Buy the CD using any of the above links for the soundtrack CD. Learn more about Walden and various CDs you can buy that include his work at the official WG Snuffy Walden web site.
