Where These Codes Came From
These cheat codes were compiled from a variety of web pages around the Internet and laboriously assembled by Matthew Miller, then shamelessly stolen by me without any sort of permission whatsoever. The commentary on the cheats and the "Fun Uses for Cheats" are all by Matthew Miller.
Enabling Cheat Codes
Enabling Cheat Codes takes a little setup before you start the game.
- Go to the "DeusEx/System" directory on the drive where you installed Deus Ex. Use Notepad or another text editor to open the file user.ini
- Find the section labeled [Engine.Input] This is the section of the INI file that stores the Keyboard Bindings, or for gaming Newbies, the list of in-game commands that are invoked when you hit a certain key. Your next task will be to find the line that says T= on a line by itself. If no such line exists, you can add it anywhere in the [Engine.Input] section of the INI file.
- Replace T= with the line T=talk
- Save the changes and start the game.
That's it for the initial setup. Once inside the game you use the Talk command (Now bound to the T key) to invoke the command line that allows you to enable cheats.
To enable cheats press T while playing the game, delete the word say and type the following line:
set DeusEx.JCDentonMale bCheatsEnabled True
Pay close attention to the spaces. One web site I saw omitted the space between JCDentonMale and bCheatsEnabled, thus rendering the cheat codes worthless.
It has been reported that you can enable cheats on game launch by adding the text -hax0r to the command line used to launch Deus Ex. Thus you would change the shortcut to something like:
"C:\Deus Ex\System\DeusEx.exe" -hax0r.
Please adjust the command line to reflect where you installed Deus Ex.
Using Cheats
Once cheats are enabled, use the T key to bring up the dialog where you can type in the cheat codes below. Remember, always delete the word say before typing any of the commands, or the cheat won't work.
Remember, you have to enable cheats each time you enter a new level. A new level includes any time the game throws up the text Saving... followed by Loading... As soon as the new section of the map is loaded you have to enable cheats for things like god mode, flying and the like.

Full health | allhealth | It works, but you might prefer to summon MedicalBot instead. | Yes |
God mode | god | Even in God mode you can still die by falling from exceptional heights, getting sliced up by the massive fan in Mission 9, and I think you can still drown, but I'm not sure... | No |
Hidden menu | legend | The coolest cheat, partially because it lets you play any music on the game CD. In fact, you can play all the variations (ambient, fight, conversation, death) of each track. Also you can load any map, plus various other cool stuff. | No |
Invisibility | invisible true/false | This one is a toggle. invisible true to activate and invisible false to deactivate. | No |
Kill current target | tantalus | It works, but it's a pain in the neck to use. See Tantalus note below. | No |
No clipping mode | ghost | Also invokes fly when used. Use walk to return to normal. You can't use items or change weapons while in this mode | No |
Spawn indicated item | summon [item name] | Works just fine. Same as entering spawnmass 1 [item name] | Yes, items remain after saving and reloading the game |
Spawn number of items | spawnmass [number] [item name] | Same as summon but lets you add more than one item at a time. | Yes, items remain after saving and reloading the game |

Third party view enabled | behindview 1
Level and FMV sequence select | open [level name] | See notes below | No |
Unlock targeted door | opensesame
A Persistent cheat is one's whose effects remain even if you move on to a different level or map section and don't enable cheats. Augs, ammo and money added to your inventory are persistent cheats. God Mode or EMP shield are not persistent cheats.

Augmentation List
For use with the AugAdd X code, where X is the Cheat code in the table below.
Keep in mind, Augs come in pairs, and you can only install one of the augs in the pair. The table indicates which augs are paired.
Cheat Code |
www.avault.com notes on Aug |
My Notes on Aug |
Arms |
AugCombat | Combat Strength (Greater Melee Strength - Melee attacks are more damaging) | Useless unless you're focusing on Knives, swords and the Baton as your primary weapons |
AugMuscle | Microfibral Muscle (Greater Lifting Strength) | Vital Aug for anyone who wants to use Heavy Weapons. (GEP, Flamethrower, LAW) |
SubDermal 1 |
AugBallistic | Ballistic Shield (Protects player from physical projectiles/weapons) | More useful of the two. |
AugShield | Energy Shield (Protects player from energy projectiles/weapons) | Redundant if you keep some BioCells handy |
SubDermal 2 |
AugCloak | Cloak (Concealment from organic entities - guards, soldiers, cops) | Pick whichever Aug protects you from the enemies you have the most trouble with. |
AugRadarTrans | Radar Transparency (Concealment from mechanical entities - bots, cameras, turrets etc)
Torso 1 |
AugAqualung | Player can swim better | Not much Use, not much swimming in the game |
AugEnviro | Environmental Resistance | Better choice of the two |
Torso 2 |
AugHealing | Players healing rate increased | This aug plus Power Recirculator can render medkits obsolete and allow you to focus on BioCells instead |
AugEMP | EMP Shield (Protects player from EMP damage) | How many EMP weapons are tossed at you though??? |
Torso 3 |
AugHeartlung | Synthetic Heart (Upgrades performance of all augs) | If your favorite augs are already at 4, this is a useless aug. |
AugPower | Power Recirculator (Reduces power cost of all augmentations) | Allows you to run Augs at reduced power drain. One player posted that using Power Recirculator with Regeneration was like having your own med bot. |
Optics |
AugTarget | Targeting (Provides info on target and increases accuracy) | Made Redundant by increasing your skill in your weapon of choice and adding Weapon Mods to your firearms. |
AugVision | Vision Enhancement (see through walls, night vision etc) | This one lets you see enemies through walls and doors at higher levels. Great way to tell if those pounding steps you hear are two feet or two floors away. |
Legs |
AugStealth | Player can run silently | Good for Ninja types into hand-to hand combat. OK for snipers |
AugSpeed | Player can run faster | Also lets you jump higher, leap farther and cover gaps that you would have fallen into before. Also known as the "Hello Mr. Steve Austin" Aug. |
Skull Don't think about where the drone comes out... |
AugDefense | Aggressive Defense System (Protects against missiles and grenades) | Microscopic nannites spray from your skin and intercept projectile weapons. Think of the "Chaff" scene from Airforce One |
AugDrone | Spy Drone (player can launch a drone for reconnaissance, disabling cameras and turrets etc) | Huge power drain, limited control. Don't launch it unless you're in a safe position. Releases an EMP field when deactivated. Highest levels can take out Military Bots. |

Movie Codes
Use one of the following level names with the open code to view the corresponding FMV sequence. All the end games are failry anticlimatic (Sorry, but if you were afraid of that spoiler you wouldn't be reading this page) so don't hope for much in terms of visuals.

Fun Things you can do with Cheats
Fun with the Tantalus Cheat.
This is probably the single most elaborate means of killing off large numbers of enemy troops.
- Enable Cheats
- Use the ghost
cheat
- Wander around the map until you find a group of
enemy soldiers you wish to dispose of
- Back up until you can see them, but they can't
see you because you're "in" the ceiling.
- Use spawmmass to create a large number of
grays, terrorists or whatever your heart desires.
- If they do not start killing each other right
away, use tantalus to kill one of your newly spawned minions.
- The surviving spawned villains will generally
begin attacking the soldiers that were there originally, and the fight
will continue until one side or the other is completely wiped out.
- Of course this means you'll have to deal with whoever or whatever survives, so be careful you don't trade in 7 soldiers for 10 grays.
She keeps Dying and Dying and Dying...
Agent Anna Navarre may be hot in a "If I'd get with a cyborg she'd be the one" sort of way, but sooner or later she tries to kill you. There are three times where you and Anna can go at it like the North and the South. Using the legend cheat you can kill her all three times without resorting to saved games and replaying portions of the game to get back to the battle.
First, a note about fighting Anna. The easiest way to do her in is with the flamethrower. A quick blast and she runs around until the flames go out. You have to hit her somewhere between three and five times, so be sure to squeeze off another blast of fire before she has the chance to pull out her weaponry and start dismembering you.
When she's nearing the end of her hit points, she'll turn invisible. You'll be able to see a vague outline, sort of like the Predator's cloaking device. The flamethrower is very useful here because you can just spin around with the flames flying and know you'll hit her sooner or later.
Remember, she blows up when she dies, so keep your distance.
There are three times when you can kill Anna:
-
On the airplane with Lebedev.
Once you have your initial conversation with
Lebedev, Anna will run in and tell you to murder Lebedev. If you talk to Lebedev again, Anna will end the conversation by shooting him. If you kill Anna and Lebedev is captured, no one will know you killed Anna except one guy who decides to keep his mouth shut. If you save Lebedev he will be taken into custody. Later in the game, you learn from one of the public news terminals that Lebedev dies in custody, so saving him doesn't accomplish much.
-
Battery Park Subway Station
At one point, Anna will attack you in the subway. You can escape by running up the stairs and surrendering to Gunther. You will be taken into custody and move on to the next level. (Surrender at this point is the best option. Some of the enemies Gunther has with him are invincible. Fighting will only mean you're that much weaker when you wake up in the M12 base.)
-
Final Escape from UNATCO Headquarters.
Anna has been hand picked to make sure you don't escape from the M12 base below UNATCO. You have the chance to get her Killphrase by hacking her computer and then hacking Manderley's computer. Anna is waiting for you at the top of the stairs above the level that has Manderley's office. Once you go up those stairs she'll be after you, so get her killphrase first.
When a level is loaded, it's populated with items, so if you kill Anna in a level you can't bring her back from the dead by using the trick below. If you want her to be alive you have to use the legend cheat before you enter the next level where you fight her. For example, if you want her to wake you up in M12 headquarters you have to use the cheat below right after killing her, and before you go up the stairs and surrender to Gunther. (If only she were awakening you under different circumstances *sigh*)
- Enable Cheats
- Use the legend
cheat
- Select the "Edit Flags" option
- Select the option AnnaKilled
- Set it to False
- Return to the game
The Edit Flags cheat is probably the most powerful
one in the game. It basically lets you change the bulk of the event flags that are present in the complete game. you can adjust whether or not your KillSwitch has been deactivated, Toggle the value determining if you've recruited Jamie Reyes and so on. If you missed a conversation you can even reset most of those without too much trouble so they're repeated when you talk to that person again, or ease drop on their conversation. Heck, there's even a GuntherRespectsPlayer switch, which I assume toggles whether or not he knows you killed Anna.
