Software on the Internet

There are many places on the Internet to download programs, including C|Net's Shareware.com site. There are many types of software available at these sites for you to browse through. This software might enhance the capabilities of your browser, be a valuable utility like a virus scanner, or might simply be a cool game. When you download this software, it is transferred from a distant computer, across the Internet, to your own system.

Software that is available for download from sites on the Internet falls into one of three categories:

• Freeware - Copyrighted software that is free to use and copy.
• Shareware - Copyrighted software that requests a registration fee be paid to continue use of the software after a trial period.
• Commercial - Copyrighted software, usually containing additional features in comparision to freeware and shareware, that must be purchased to use.
